College of Agriculture students get ipads
Students of the College of Agriculture at the Asante Mampong campus of the University of Education have received ipad tablets preloaded with a software that contains their coursework and affords them access to library materials.
It is hoped that by providing the students with the tablets, learning and research work will become a lot easier for them. Beneficiaries also include students of the Distance Education Programme.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, announced the innovation at the 19th Congregation of the University of Education in Winneba. The occasion also marked the 10th Congregation of the College of Agriculture of the University College of Education in Asante-Mampong.
The university’s congregation was held across the various campuses in the country. The climax was held in Winneba.
A total of 8,518 tablets were distributed to students at the graduation ceremony held in Asante-Mampong, together with their academic scrolls. Among the number included eight PhD holders, 159 of them with First Class degrees and 900 Master’s degree holders.
The graduands included females who made up 37 per cent of the total number of stuents that passed out. According to Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw, the university is working hard to achieve equality in the number of students in the near future.
He announced that an institutional repository had been established to gather intellectual property belonging to the university.
Electronic copies of articles, dissertations, various publications of both staff and students have been uploaded onto the repository to enable easy access.
Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw said the institution had also decided to regularly conduct research to help improve the research skills of both staff and students.
