The suspect, Isaac Boadi, 26, alias KK, whose testicles were shot at during the gun battle with the police in the foiled robbery operation, was arrested at Quarshie near Asamankese last Thursday night, after he sought treatment from a native cum orthodox medicine practitioner.

The police said the suspect’s cover was blown through an intelligence-led swoop after it was established that the four robbers who escaped with gunshot wounds in the gun battle hailed from the Oda area.

A 60-year-old man, Stephen Feyi, who attended to the suspect at his clinic has also been arrested.

The two have since been handed over to the Accra Regional Police Command to assist with investigations that could lead to the arrest of the three other suspects who fled last Wednesday.

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Oda yesterday, the Oda Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr James Sarfo-Peprah, said a manhunt was mounted immediately they received information that the four suspected robbers who escaped during the operation that led to the death of a policeman, Constable Prince Akattah, were natives of Oda.

He said initially the police had information that Boadi, a native of Akyem Kokobeng in the Birim South District, was hiding at Nkrankrom, near Akyem Asuboa “but when the security personnel went to the village, he had left the place”.

Chief Superintendent Sarfo-Peprah said through intelligence, the police gathered that the proprietor of a clinic at Asuboa had treated Boadi at his facility.

He said when the police contacted Feyi, he admitted he had treated Boadi but said he had referred him to the Oda Government Hospital for further treatment.

Subsequently, the Oda Divisional Commander said, the police received information that Boadi had sought refuge at a farming community known as Quarshie “so we pursued him to the place and we arrested him”.

He stated that during interrogation, Boadi admitted being one of the 12 suspected armed robbers who shot Constable Akattah at Weija but he fled to Oda.

The Oda Divisional Crime Officer, Superintendent of Police, Mr David Gyabaa, explained that the 12 suspected robbers were not based in Oda as was being speculated.

He said some of them were natives of the area.

He said the suspects lived in Tema and Accra “but they sneak to their native town any time they commit crime and the police pursue them. Oda is not a crime hub”.

The incident

Last Wednesday, a policeman died after he had been shot in the thigh following a gun battle with 12 suspected robbers.

Two of the robbers were gunned down, while four others escaped with gunshot wounds.

The police managed to arrest six of the robbers.

The police have identified the leader of the robbery gang as Nathaniel Baidoo, alias Kingkong, who is currently at large.

Other suspects who are wanted by the police are Kwabena Kumi, alias Kwabena Mike, and another who has been identified only as Obolo.

Cocoa beans theft

In another development, the Oda Divisional Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old cocoa purchasing clerk at Asuboa, who is said to have bought stolen cocoa beans from the robbery gang Boadi belonged to.

The robbers were on police wanted list for allegedly breaking into a cocoa warehouse and stealing cocoa beans.

According to Chief Superintendent Sarfo-Peprah, the suspect, Francis Yaw Gwirah, had been buying stolen cocoa beans from people in the Oda area.
