The factory, which was established by the government of the First Republic to produce glass for the local and international market, collapsed after the overthrow of Dr Kwame Nkrumah in 1966.

Receiving the outgoing ambassador of the Czech Republic, Mr Miloslav Mechelek, at the Flagstaff House yesterday, President Mahama said the government was keen on bringing the factory back to life.

He said once the challenges in the power sector were addressed, attention would be focused on the factory.

Mr Mechelek was at the Flagstaff House to bid the President farewell after a five-year duty stay in Ghana.

Also at the seat of government to bid farewell was the Algerian Ambassador, Mr Larbi Karti, who had also completed a five-year official duty.

Ghana-Czech relation

Mr Mechelek told the President how happy he was to have worked in Ghana and indicated that the political stability and peace in Ghana made it one of the best countries in the world to work in.

Mr Mahama said Ghana and the Czech Republic had long relations, which unfortunately slackened later. However, the visit he paid to that country while serving as Vice-President revived the relations and sent it to another level.

President Mahama also said one of the outcomes of his visit was the revival of the Kumasi Shoe Factory with Czech support.

He said the Czech Republic had comparative advantage in the power and agricultural sectors so Ghana would collaborate with it to ensure a win-win situation. He also congratulated the envoy on the good work he did in Ghana.

Algeria

Receiving the Algerian envoy, President Mahama said the bilateral relationship between the two countries had grown to a high level.

The relationship was exemplified in a number of areas including the good number of Ghanaian students studying in Algeria on scholarships granted by that country.

He also praised Algeria for the role it played in resolving the crisis in Mali and expressed the hope that with its experience in tackling terrorism, Algeria would support Nigeria to deal with the Boko Haram menace.

Mr Karti commended the President and Ghanaians for the extraordinary support given him during his stay.
