‘Develop Lake Bosomtwe into modern resort’

Some revellers who visited the Abono section of Lake Bosomtwe on Easter Monday have called for a public/private partnership to develop the lake into a modern tourist attraction.

Private sector involvement, they said, would ensure the development and proper management of the resort in the Bosomtwe District in the Ashanti Region, which currently lacks the needed facilities.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic randomly at Abono on Easter Monday, the revellers called for summer huts to be built and seats to be provided along the shores of the lake for visitors, in the interim.

Private sector

Ms Ama Nyarko, a resident of Obuasi in Ashanti, in a chat with the the paper, commended the Bosomtwe District Assembly for the security measures it provided at the place on special occasions such as Easter.

She added that the private sector could provide the much-needed capital to develop the lake into a modern resort.

The District Chief Executive for Bosomtwe, Ms Veronica Antwi Adjei, added her voice to the call for private sector involvement in the development of the lake when she spoke with the Daily Graphic, saying the assembly alone could not shoulder that responsibility.

She said the assembly had started working towards the provision of summer huts and chairs along the resort at Abono by June this year.

Lake Bosomtwe currently contributes about 45 per cent of the assembly’s internally generated funds.
