For its part, the ministry has also committed itself to the effective implementation of all recommendations and programmes in the 2015 health summit aide memoire.

The two bodies authenticated their commitments by appending their signatures to the 2015 health summit’s aide memoire in Accra last Friday.

The signing of the aide memoire  concluded the five-day  2015 health summit attended by all stakeholders from agencies of the Ministry of Health, other ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), donor community, civil society, non-governmental organisations and the private sector.

The meeting was a platform for the ministry’s stakeholders and its development partners to review the performance of the ministry in 2014,  discuss relevant issues to the sector and make consensual decisions on the way forward.

The aide memoire contains proposed solutions to the challenges of the health sector, proposed programmes to improve health delivery in Ghana among other contents.

No automatic solution

Signing on behalf of the development partners, their health sector lead who doubles as the World Health Organisation’s ( WHO) representative to Ghana, Dr Magda Robalo commended the Ministry of Health for a well organised, productive and successful health summit.

According to her, initiating and signing of an aide memoire did not automatically mean that issues at stake were going to be easily solved.

“We are all very much aware of the many challenges lying ahead for the years to come, but our collective determination to address the heads-on remains strong.

“We are coming to the end of   2015, the last year for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).Although we have  not been able to meet the health related targets, we have made progress and remain committed to finish the MDGs business while embracing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” Dr Robalo said.

“We commit to continue working closely with you to support your defined priorities, in the context of our common management arrangements.

Ministry committed to implementation

Signing onbehalf of the Health Ministry, a deputy Minister of Health, Dr Victor Bampoe said the sector expected the implementation of the aide memoire to be a shared responsibility between the ministry and its development partners.

“We expect partners to aid the Ministry of Health in its quest to improve healthcare delivery by providing the appropriate technical and financial and material support, while you jointly monitor the progress of implementation,” he added.
