Dormaahene donates to Dormaa SHS

The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyeman Badu II, has announced a GH¢100,000 package to rehabilitate dilapidated structures at the Dormaa Senior High School (Dormaa SHS).

To kickstart the pledge, he presented a cheque for GH¢20,000 and 400 bags of cement to the school, which is his alma mater, last Friday.

He also pledged to present a block moulding machine he purchased in China at a cost of about GH¢30,000 to the school and pay the cost of labour to fence  part of the school.

His visit to the school to make the presentation and inspect structures there formed part of activities marking his 50th birthday which fell on Friday, May 27, 2016.

Dilapidated structures

Most structures of the Dormaa SHS, established more than 55 years ago, are dilapidated.

Most of the dormitories, the  assembly hall and the classrooms are without  louvre blades and mosquito netting, thereby posing a health risk to the students and staff resident on the campus.

Part of the school is not walled, providing an opportunity for thieves, weed smokers and thugs to frequently enter the compound to harass the students.

Presentation

The presentation of the 400 bags of cement and the initial GH¢20,000 of the GH¢100,000 package was to cater for the walling and provision of mosquito nets and louvre blades.

There was joy on the compound for both staff and students of the school last Friday when Osagyefo Agyeman Badu and his retinue of chiefs paid them the historic visit.

The school’s cultural troupe treated the gathering to a cultural display and artistry and for their splendid performance, the Omanhene gave them GH¢5,000.

Address

Addressing the students, Osagyefo Agyeman Badu asked them not to allow anything to be a hindrance to their  journey towards achieving higher academic laurels.

“Knowledge is power,” he said, adding that there was  the need for students to use their time in school to acquire as much knowledge as possible to assist them in their future endeavours.

“You need to use the time spent here to prepare yourselves for your future, since education is key to your future development,” he said.

Sharing his experiences  with the students, he  said students  of the school during his time were able to match students from well-endowed schools in other regions, even though the school lacked resources.

He attributed successes chalked up then to dedication on the part of tutors and discipline and commitment on the part of the students to work hard to achieve their ambitions.

Osagyefo Agyeman Badu, therefore, urged the students to make the right choices in life to enable their parents, the government and society to reap better results in the investment being made in their education.

Headmistress

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Margaret Pomaa Okyereh, thanked the Omanhene for returning to his alma mater to share his experiences and assist in the rehabilitation of dilapidated structures.

She indicated that the invasion of thugs of the compound occasionally was a source of worry to both staff and students.

“We are, indeed, grateful, since the package will go a long way to alleviate these problems we are facing here from time to time,” she said.
