Draft GYEEDA Bill for cabinet soon
A bill to provide the requisite legal backing to the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) to accelerate job creation and skill development among the youth will soon be presented to the Cabinet for approval.

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, who announced this when he took his turn in the meet-the-press encounter in Accra, said the draft bill had reached the final stage.
He expressed optimism that the bill would be approved by cabinet and receive the nod from the presidency, adding that the approval would accelerate skill training meant to build the capacity of the youth more meaningfully.
Touching on the alleged corrupt cases in the GYEEDA reports, Mr Ankrah said a “mechanism to deal with those found to have been implicated in the reports in a decisive manner had been put in place.”
“People have not been left off the hook as is being speculated. Contracts have been cancelled, and people are being investigated thoroughly. When enough evidence that can stand the test of time is found, we will proceed to court because we have to follow due process as is done in any democratic country”.
Mr Ankrah also announced that measures had been put in place for the passage of a new law that would reduce controversies in sports development in the country.
“The law will enhance corporate sponsorship and reduce the burden of government shouldering sponsorship of sports development in the country” he noted.
According to the minister, the law would again offer opportunity for the promotion of sports lottery to generate money for sports promotion, as well as entice corporate bodies to sponsor sports development in the country in a comprehensive manner .

That, he noted, would greatly reduce the burden on government in sponsoring sports in the country.
He said the government was also collaborating with various bodies to establish an anti-doping office at the Accra Sports Stadium to bring discipline among sports men and women.
On youth development, Mr Ankrah said plans were far advanced for the ministry to develop sports infrastructure , including football fields, recreational grounds, sports halls, and Information and Communication Technology centres among others, across the country.
He said the ministry would also construct libraries across the country to enable the youth to access such facilities, broaden their horizon and build their skills.
The projects, he indicated, would be funded through collaboration with district assemblies.
