Dream Big - Prez Mahama urges youth

President John Dramani Mahama has challenged Ghanaian youth to dream big as great opportunities exist in the country for them to achieve their lifetime ambitions.

He said Ghana was not a hopeless country as some people thought, and therefore asked the youth to take advantage of opportunities at home instead of thinking of travelling abroad to do menial jobs.

Launching the Mara Mentor Ghana Programme at the Flagstaff House yesterday, Mr Mahama said "you can surely make it in Ghana if you really want to develop your God-given talents here."

Mara Mentor is an online community that connects ambitious entrepreneurs with successful and experienced business leaders.

The initiative encourages idea and knowledge sharing among Africa's most promising young entrepreneurs, and also inspires a collaborative approach to business start-up and growth.

Created by the Mara Foundation, the mentorship programme aims at empowering Africa's youth in their business endeavours.

Destiny

President Mahama said Ghanaian youth could make a difference in the world if they took their destinies in their own hands.

He said the government had put in place progressive measures to support the youth in their endeavours.

One of them, he said, was the Youth Enterprises Support (YES), which was recently launched to support young entrepreneurs.

The YES, the President said, carried a lot of benefits for which reason it should be embraced by the youth.

He also said the YES and Mara initiatives had many things in common and commended the founder of Mara Foundation, Mr Ashish J. Thakkar, for his tremendous industry that had resulted in the growth of his foundation

Thakkar

Mr Thakkar said the decision to launch the programme in Ghana was based on the remarkable support the leadership was giving to youth development in the country.

He commended the President for the good work he was doing and promised that the Mara Foundation would not fail the nation.
