Community without power

Drobonso, which is the capital of the newly created Sekyere Afram Plains District, has been without power since its creation about a year ago.

At a ceremony to inaugurate the project, Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwadiesiaw, the Chief of Drobonso, said it was a dream come true for him and the community.

He said even though he knew power would one day come to the community, “I never foresaw this happening in my lifetime.”

On behalf of the people, he extended the community’s appreciation to the government, adding that he was hopeful that the amenity would slimuate the development of the area.

Importance of electricity

A Deputy Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr John Abu Jinapor, who inaugurated the project, underscored the importance of electricity to the economic development of communities, hence the need to get all communities connected to the national grid.

He said the government was committed to extending electricity to all communities in the country and was hopeful that the country would achieve universal access to electricity by 2016.

Currently, he said, about 76 per cent of communities in the country was connected to the national grid.

He stressed that electricity was a catalyst for development and  was hopeful that the extension of power to the community would reduce rural-urban migration among the youth, as it would open up avenues for job creation and the expansion of the community.
