Duraplast donates water tanks to Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources

Duraplast Limited, manufacturer of plastic products, has presented 40 water tanks and 10 hand-washing equipment to the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources (MSWR) to help in the fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The items are valued at GH¢140,000.

The Human Resource Manager of Duraplast, Mr Alfred Farfo, presented the items to the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Mrs Cecilia Abena Dapaah, in Accra yesterday.

Capacity

Twenty of the water tanks have a 7,000-litre capacity each, while the other 20 have 8,000-litre capacity each.

The tanks are expected to boost water supply to areas in Accra and other parts of the country that are noted for water shortages.

The accompanying hand-washing equipment, known as Clean Duraplast (CD) Wash Stations, are an improvement on the Veronica buckets that are widely used for hand-washing purposes.

Each wash station has a reservoir compartment at the top and is connected by a pipe to a receptacle at the bottom for hand washing.

Social responsibility

Mr Farfo explained that the gesture formed part of Duraplast’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) aimed at tackling developmental challenges in society.

He said even though water was an essential item in the fight against the COVID-19, unfortunately, a number of people lacked access to the commodity.

He said it was as a result of that that Duraplast was making the donation to help support those in need.

“We are also aware of the difficulty people have in storing water during this COVID-19 era. We believe that the water tanks will help the ministry reach out to such people through regular supply of water,” he said.

He urged the public to make regular hand washing a part of their culture, since it was one of the surest ways to halt the spread of the virus.

Timely donation

Ms Dapaah described the donation by Duraplast as a major boost to efforts the ministry and the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) were making to ensure water for all.
