Eastern Regional Minister inaugurates 2 markets in Akyem Oda
The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, today (January 3, 2025) officially handed over two market facilities constructed under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to the Birim Central Municipality.
The markets, located at the Kumasi Lorry Park in Oda and Nkwantanum, a suburb of Oda, were financed by the World Bank through the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme.
Minister's call for proper maintenance
Speaking at separate ceremonies for the handover, Mr Acheampong urged the municipal assembly and the beneficiaries to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities to benefit future generations.
“The NPP government has done a lot in terms of development projects, for which the people of Ghana will continue to remember this regime for many years,” he said.
Mr Acheampong expressed gratitude to former Minister of Local Government Dan Botwe, the Member of Parliament for Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, and both the former and current Municipal Chief Executives, Victoria Adu and Joyce Adwoa Agyeiwaa, for their significant contributions towards the successful completion of the two projects.
He highlighted the NPP government’s achievements through the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme, which has delivered numerous high-profile social amenities in urban communities across the country, improving the quality of life for citizens.
Acknowledgements and promises
The functions were attended by Madam Joyce Adwoa Agyeiwaa, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, and executives of the NPP in the Oda Constituency.
The Birim Central Municipal Coordinating Director, Haruna Amadu Zure, officially received the facilities on behalf of the municipality. He lauded the NPP government for its dedication to the development of the municipality and the nation as a whole.
“We promise to attach a maintenance culture to the facilities to enhance their longevity,” he assured.
