ECG announces planned maintenance across Tema, Accra East, Ashanti Regions for Tuesday, May 12
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has scheduled an extensive network of planned maintenance exercises across the Tema, Accra East, and Ashanti Regions for Tuesday, May 12, 2026, even as engineers continue to battle multiple network faults that plunged several communities into darkness on Monday.
According to advisories issued by the power distributor over the weekend, the coordinated works are aimed at enhancing service reliability and strengthening the stability of the national grid. The outages will commence at varying times across affected areas, with durations depending on the scope of works to be carried out at each location.
In the Tema Region, a planned maintenance operation will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, affecting Emef Estate, Harbour View Estates, High Tension, Celebrity Golf Club, Jotafa, Jubail Hospital, Sakumono Village and Estates, Sydal Farms, Adjei Kodjo, Japan City, Global, Teteman, Odumase, Christian International School, Ahwiam, Akplabanya, Magotsonya, Songo Salt, Mataheko, Goi, Kportitse Kope, and surrounding areas. The six-hour outage will impact residential estates, a golf club, a hospital, schools, and salt-mining operations.
In the Accra East Region, a planned maintenance operation will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting La Trust, Tseaddo Roundabout, Coconut Junction, Adenta Container, Adenta Housing Down, New England, Sephoda, Adenta Lotto Kiosk, and surrounding areas.
In the Ashanti Region, two separate planned maintenance operations have been scheduled. The first will run from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, affecting Mamponteng, Aboaso, Ntonso, Dumanafo, Ankaase, Asonomaso Nkwanta, Safo, Kona, and surrounding areas. A second operation will run from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, affecting an extensive list of communities including Edwenase, parts of Kwadaso, Nwamase, Apire, Ampatia, Bebu, Dako, Adumasa, Ampabame No.1 and 2, Mpatasie, Trede, Sabin Akrofrom, Takyiman, Denkyembouso, Ohwumasi, Hill Top, parts of Asouyeboa, parts of Tanoso, Yabi, Merewadwa, Kokode, Aburaso, Kromoase, Akyeremade, Chichibon, Gyekye, Dida, Odeneho Kwadaso, OWASS, parts of Kwadaso, Agric Amanfrom, Santasi, Fankyenebra, Apemanim, Boko, Twedie, Foase, Manso Nkwanta, Antoakrom, Nweneso, Manso Adubia, and surrounding areas.
Additionally, two emergency maintenance exercises have been scheduled in the Ashanti Region for Tuesday. The first will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, affecting Lowcost, Pepedan, Yeguaa, Broadway, BD, and surrounding areas. A second emergency operation will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, affecting Ahenkro, Kodie, Aduamoah, Aduman, Mowire, Akom, Apagya, and surrounding areas.
In the Western Region, an emergency maintenance operation will run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, affecting Mile 1, Mankesim, Mile 10/2, Badukrom, and surrounding areas.
Monday faults leave communities in darkness
These scheduled interventions come as the ECG continues to manage the aftermath of multiple network faults that struck on Monday, 11th May 2026. In the Ashanti South Region, a network fault affected Marfokrom and surrounding areas, while a separate fault left Chirapatre and surrounding areas without power. Engineers were deployed to rectify both faults.
In the Accra East Region, an underground cable fault at Nima disrupted power to Nima IPMC, Nima Police Station, Nima Market, Nima Alaska, parts of Kokomlemle, Nima Kizito, Nima Frankies, Nima German base, and surrounding areas.
In the Accra West Region, a technical challenge at Ablekuma affected Ablekuma Curve, Borkorborkor, Manhean, and surrounding areas.
In the Western Region, a transformer fault at Windy Ridge left Windy Ridge, Nigeria Flats, and surrounding areas without power.
In its public notices, the ECG extended its apologies to all affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by both the scheduled maintenance and the unplanned network faults. The company reassured the public that engineers are working diligently to resolve all network issues while emphasising that the planned exercises are necessary to ensure the long-term robustness of the power network across the regions.
