The doctors, who were distributed to various health facilities in the country, also held training programmes for 40 doctors.

Altogether, they attended to 607 Out Patient Department (OPD) clients, 304 inpatients and conducted 24 major operations and 40 anaesthesia services.

Farewell ceremony

At a ceremony to bid the delegation farewell, the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Victor Asare-Bampoe, said the current doctor to patient ratio underscored the need to support and sustain such international cooperation.

He expressed the Government of Ghana’s gratitude to the Egyptian Agency for Partnership Development and the medical doctors for their overwhelming support for Ghana‘s healthcare system.

Share experiences

The Egyptian Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Mohammed Heider, said it was an opportunity for the Egyptian doctors to also explore, learn and share their experiences with their counterparts in Ghana.

The initiative, he said, was to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the health sector.

Mr Heider said Egypt had a lot to offer in support of Ghana’s development, particularly in the health sector.

“Egypt is ready to explore best business modules in the health sector on which both countries could collaborate for the benefit of both countries,” he said.

He said the feedback from the cooperation had been good, particularly because the delegation was well received by their Ghanaian counterparts.

He commended Ghanaians and health workers for their hospitality and commended the government for the good healthcare systems and facilities.

Mr Heider said that was the second delegation to Ghana.

The head of the 15-member medical delegation, Dr Abdl aal Albahnasawa, said they received excellent support in the execution of their work.
