EP Church Kaneshie inducts new pastor as Rev Bruce warns on unmet expectations
The Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana, Kaneshie District, has inducted a new resident pastor, with a call on Christians to align their lives with God’s expectations to reduce conflict and strengthen relationships.
At a ceremony held on Sunday, the Reverend Professor Daniel Y. Bruce delivered a sermon during the induction and welcome service of Reverend D.N.A. Affram, who takes over as District Pastor.
Preaching on the theme, “The Expectation of the Shepherd,” Rev. Prof. Bruce attributed rising tensions and misunderstandings in society to unmet expectations among individuals, stressing that similar principles apply in the relationship between God and humanity.
He said that just as people expect honesty, faithfulness and responsibility from one another, the failure to meet such standards often results in disappointment and strained relationships.
“If you are not meeting the expectations of God, how do you expect Him to bless you?” he asked.
Rev. Prof. Bruce explained that God’s expectations for humanity include kindness, generosity and care for others, adding that these values are essential for peaceful coexistence.
He urged the Church to strengthen its welfare systems to support members and enhance the propagation of the Gospel, noting that obedience to God’s will remains central to receiving divine blessings.
Drawing on everyday examples, he said unmet expectations often lead to conflict and dissatisfaction, and encouraged Christians to reflect on their conduct and align it with biblical principles.
He further reminded the congregation that Jesus Christ, described as the Good Shepherd, has expectations of His followers, urging them to practise kindness, generosity and mutual support.
Rev. Prof. Bruce also charged the newly inducted pastor to lead with humility, patience and compassion, stressing that effective pastoral leadership requires empathy and a gentle approach.
Rev. Affram, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to God and the Church for the opportunity to serve, describing the induction as a formal affirmation of his relationship with the Kaneshie District congregation.
He acknowledged the support of his family, particularly his wife, and colleagues in ministry, noting that their encouragement had sustained him through challenging periods, including public criticism.
The new District Pastor outlined five key commitments to guide his leadership, including dedication to prayer, faithful preaching, maintaining a strong pastoral presence, upholding integrity and fostering partnership with the congregation.
He called on members to support him through cooperation, constructive correction and prayer, emphasising that building a strong ministry requires shared responsibility.
