FDA bans recharger
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has banned the sale of male silkworm moth nourishing liquid (recharger) from the market.

The recharger product was registered as a herbal medicinal product for male vitality.
The FDA’s post-market surveillance revealed that the product had been adulterated with vardenasil, a chemical used to treat erectile dysfunction, the Central Regional Director of the FDA, Mr Kwame Nsiah-Poku, told the Daily Graphic.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the first national executive council meeting of the Ghana Hotels Association at Elmina yesterday.
He said the information, as provided by the producers of the drug, was not included at the time of the registration of the product.
Adverse effect
“This product was registered as a herbal medicinal product for male vitality,” adding that the adverse effect of the product had serious health implications such as bleeding in the brain, heart attack, palpitation and priapism.
Mr Nsiah-Poku also used the occasion to appeal to hoteliers to refrain from allowing the use of their facility as a consulting and healthcare facility.
That, he said, was because many drugs sold in the hotels were not registered and that the FDA could not guarantee their safety, quality and efficacy.
