This year’s conference, on the theme: “Women in HR: Creating opportunities, building bridges”, will be held in Accra on  May 11, 2016.

The conference will provide a platform for women HR practitioners to share experiences and practices that will help them enhance their career prospects, optimise their professional potential, advancement in the corporate world and improve productivity at the workplace.

Women in HR leadership

The Chief Executive Officer of the GEA, Mr Alex Frimpong, in a statement, noted that the last decade had seen a growing number of women who had risen to the summit of the HR leadership in their organisations, both in the corporate world and the public sector in Ghana.

He said in the US, as well as Europe, HR was totally dominated by women, saying that statistics indicated that in the US the number was close to 70 per cent.

“In Ghana, many women have contributed to the advancement of the HR profession. At the same time, many women are occupying various junior, middle and senior HR management positions. This development is an acknowledgement of women’s capacity, experience and strategic contribution to the people management functions in their respective organisations,” he stated.

Seventy-one per cent of HR managers are women, according to the Forbes List of the Top 10 Best-Paying Jobs for Women in 2011.

The GEA started the Women in HR Conference in 2015 in acknowledgement of women’s contribution to the field of HR and to bring together practitioners to share ideas and find ways to address the peculiar challenges of women in HR.

Participants in the maiden conference were advised to practise HR with emphasis on being more data-oriented, more technology-based, more evidence-based, more financial oriented and operated in a more scientific way.
