Foundation organises free shopping for children

Orphans Cake Foundation (OCF), a Tesano-based Christian Non-Governmental Organisation, has organised free shopping for about 227 orphans and their caregivers from five orphanages in the Central Region.

The organisation displayed items worth about GH¢15,000, ranging from educational materials, footwear, clothing, Bibles, cosmetics, toys, among others at Winneba Junction, and provided beneficiaries with credit cards to buy items of their choice.

Beneficiary orphanages
The beneficiary orphanages were Helping Hand, Tina’s Care, Mum’s Care, St Anna’s Family Home and Good Shepherd orphanage.
The orphans were also feted with food and drinks.

The Board Chairman of OCF, Mr Ato Kwamena, told the Daily Graphic that the event was being organised for the third time with the objective of providing the orphans with some of their needs.

He noted that as a foundation, they believed that “our life is like a cake which needs to be shared among people,” stressing that “as individuals we need to make people lead comfortable lives.”

According to him, it was totally unacceptable for people to live affluently while the underprivileged wallowed in abject poverty, stressing that as a society, we must ensure that the plight of the socially disadvantaged were addressed.

Essence of project
He indicated that the event was to supplement the efforts of orphanages in the provision of the basic needs of the orphans, and added that it was also to enable the orphans to particularly shop for educational materials to be used in the next academic year.
He mentioned that the event would be sustained and that the next edition would be expanded to cover more orphanages.

The founder of St Anna’s Family Home, Winneba, Mrs Emelia Turkson Ndom, on behalf of the beneficiary orphanages, expressed gratitude to OCF for the event and appealed to the government to provide the necessary financial assistance to orphanages across the country to enable them give proper care to their inmates.
