Four burnt beyond recognition in head-on truck collision at Anyinasin Junction

Four persons were burnt beyond recognition following a head-on collision between a Hyundai truck and a Man Diesel near Anyinasin junction in the Eastern Region on Wednesday.

The Hyundai truck with registration number GE 1913-16 was travelling from Asamankese towards Bunso, while the Man Diesel with registration number GS 236-12 was en route from Kumasi to Accra.

Eyewitness account

Eyewitnesses at the scene indicated that the Man Diesel veered off its lane and collided with the oncoming Hyundai truck, forcing it into a nearby bush. The impact triggered a fire outbreak, which rapidly engulfed both vehicles.

The Bunso Fire Station explained it received the distress call at 5:49 on Wednesday (May 6) about the incident.

Firefighters, led by ADO II Emmanuel Otam Annan, after arriving at the scene at 6am brought the fire under control at 6:25 am and fully extinguished it at 6:50 am.

Casualties

Four victims trapped in the wreckage of the Hyundai truck were burnt beyond recognition. Their badly charred bodies were recovered by firefighters and handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigation.

One female victim, who was rescued by bystanders prior to the arrival of firefighters, is currently on admission at the Akyem Asafo Health Centre. Three occupants of the Man Diesel escaped unhurt before it burst into flames.

Aftermath

Both vehicles were completely burnt beyond salvage. The crew, with support from the Police, ensured the free flow of traffic and completed scene management at 9:06 am.

The cause of the crash and subsequent fire remains under investigation.
