Fuel tanker overturns at Fume after brake failure

Firefighters from the Anfoega Fire Station in the Volta Region on Thursday, December 25, averted a potential disaster after a fuel tanker overturned at Fume due to brake failure.

The response team, led by Station Officer II (STN.OII) Franklin Soglo, was swiftly dispatched to the scene following reports that the tanker, with registration number GR-9619-12, had veered off the road and overturned, spilling fuel.

Upon arrival, the crew immediately shut down the tanker’s engine and applied foam to cool the vehicle and contain the fuel spillage, successfully preventing a possible fire outbreak or explosion. The timely intervention also helped restore safety and ensure the free flow of traffic along the stretch.

A towing vehicle from the Volta Regional Headquarters later arrived to tow the damaged tanker off the road.

Minor injuries were recorded as a result of the incident, while the tanker sustained major damage. Authorities have once again urged motorists, particularly operators of heavy-duty vehicles, to ensure regular maintenance and adhere strictly to road safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
