Galamsey still at Anyinam

Some Chinese are still engaged in galamsey at Anyinam and they are polluting Wurudu, a stream near Kokobeda farmlands, and posing a threat to farmers in the area.

They are destroying cocoa farms and, worst of all, farmers can’t have access to their farms as the Wurudu stream has become wider  and  muddy.

These chinese are having a field day because some concession owners have allowed them.

I want to know the functions of regulatory bodies on mining because their impact is not being felt, especially the Minerals Commission and Environmental Protection Agency. These institutions have failed us as a nation.

The government should stamp its authority on the ban on illegal mining and if possible use the might of the state to deal with this canker.

It should be a case of  no fear or favour, else it would be like the ban on turkey tail (chofi) which is banned but is still being sold openly, while the law enforcement agencies look on unconcerned, with the regulating body, the Food and Drugs Authority, looking on as importers flout the ban.

What is wrong is always wrong; and the big names and the privileged few who are engaging in these illegalities should know that they are rather impeding the development of  our beloved country.
