GETFund procures items for SHSs in N/R
The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has procured items worth GH¢14,882,531 for senior high schools in the Northern Region.
The items include 10,000 metal bunk beds with mattresses, 5,000 metal dual desks, 5,000 metal mono desks, 5,000 metal tables and chairs and 500 teachers tables and chairs.
The Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Limuna-Muniru, who presented the items to the Ghana Education Service last Thursday in Tamale, for onward distribution to the beneficiary schools, said it was part of efforts to provide quality education in the country.
He said 2,000 metal bunk beds with mattresses, 3,500 metal tables and chairs and 5,000 dual desks at the cost of GH¢3,116,040 were supplied to schools last year and added, “We cannot provide infrastructure without comfortable furniture.”
Government’s commitment
Alhaji Limuna-Muniru said the government would continue to provide the needed infrastructure such as classrooms, tables and chairs to make educational institutions comfortable for teaching and learning.
Alhaji Mohammed Haroon, Regional Director of Education, said the items would go a long way to create a comfortable learning environment for students and explained that prior to the arrival of the first consignment, some schools were without beds and mattresses.
He said stocks were being taken from heads of schools and directors for the distribution of the items to the beneficiary schools.
Alhaji Haroon stated that the directorate had received 1,500 sandals and would soon be distributing them to basic schools. — GNA
