Ghana condemns Dubai drone strike that wounded 2 nationals

Two Ghanaian nationals have sustained injuries following an early morning drone incident near Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The two victims are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Dubai, where officials from Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the UAE have visited them.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the development in a statement issued in Accra on Wednesday.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been informed by the relevant authorities in the United Arab Emirates that two Ghanaian nationals sustained injuries following a drone incident in the vicinity of Dubai International Airport earlier today, 11th March, 2026,” the statement confirmed.

It added that the injuries sustained by the two Ghanaians were not life-threatening.

“Their injuries are not critical and we expect full recovery soon. We therefore urge calm as we continue to extend consular assistance and collaborate closely with host authorities,” it stated.

Government condemns attack

The ministry, on behalf of the Government of Ghana, condemned the incident, stressing that attacks targeting civilian areas and infrastructure posed significant risks to public safety.

“The Government of Ghana strongly condemns any act that endangers civilian lives and critical infrastructure.

“Such incidents pose serious risks to public safety and underscore the importance of ensuring the protection of civilians and vital international transport hubs,” the statement said.

The ministry added that it was closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and would continue to engage with the relevant authorities as necessary.

It also expressed concern over the incident and conveyed the government’s thoughts to the injured individuals and their families.

Support for affected citizens

The ministry reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Ghanaian citizens abroad, stating that Ghana was actively supporting ongoing consultations within the United Nations aimed at securing a resolution calling for a cessation of hostilities.

“The Ministry is offering the necessary leadership and coordination with Ghana's diplomatic Missions and will provide updates on the matter as and when the need arises,” it said.

It further advised Ghanaian nationals in the Gulf region to remain vigilant and comply with guidance from Ghanaian embassies and local authorities.

Rising tensions in the Middle East

The incident comes against the backdrop of rising hostilities in the region following a joint military operation by the United States and Israel in Iran, which began on February 28.

Since then, several countries hosting United States military assets have reportedly been targeted by strikes attributed to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other Iranian forces.

The drone incident near Dubai airport is one of several attacks on civilian facilities reported during the ongoing conflict, with strikes also reported on homes, hotels and schools across parts of the region.

According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), at least 1,262 civilians — including more than 200 children — have been killed since the conflict began.
