Ghana Gold Board funds life-saving surgery for 13-year-old girl
The Ghana Gold Board has funded a critical brain tumour surgery for 13-year-old Judith Edinam Woseme at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
In a Facebook post, the Goldbod said, Judith, who hails from Elmina in the Central Region, has been battling a brain tumour since November 2025 and required urgent surgical intervention to safeguard her health and future wellbeing.
Through its Special Intervention Programme Unit, the Board covered the full cost of the procedure, amounting to GH¢87,619.15. The presentation was made by the Head of the Unit, Gloria Ankomah, who handed over a dummy cheque on behalf of the institution.
Ms Ankomah stated that the Board remains committed to supporting vulnerable and afflicted members of society, particularly in life-threatening situations.
“At the Ghana Gold Board, it is our aim to provide support to the afflicted in society. When we received the request to assist the young girl, we recognised how critical the situation was. The Board and management therefore decided to support her to undergo the surgery,” she said.
Judith’s mother, Alice Woseme, expressed deep gratitude to the Board for what she described as a life-saving intervention.
“I don’t even know what to say. I am very grateful to the Ghana Gold Board for coming through for us. Where were we going to raise over eighty thousand cedis for the surgery? May God continue to bless the Ghana Gold Board,” she said tearfully.
The Head of Surgery at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Patrick Bankah, indicated that Judith’s condition is critical and required urgent attention, adding that the hospital had to reschedule other important cases to prioritise her surgery.
He confirmed that the amount provided by the Ghana Gold Board would cover the entire surgical procedure and post-operative care.
