The Ghana Military Academy (GMA) has taken delivery of dispensers and portable Global Position System (GPS).

The GPS is a radio navigation system that allows land, sea, and airborne users to determine their exact location, velocity, and time 24 hours a day, in all weather conditions, anywhere in the world.

The items, presented by the 1995 Year Group of GMA, Regular Career Course (RCC) Intake 35, are to help enhance the operations of the institution.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony at the training grounds of the GMA in Accra, the President of the RCC Intake 35, Lt Col Eric Konadu, said the presentation was done as part of the group’s 20th anniversary celebration.

As part of the activities for the day, the Commanding Officer of the 66 Artillery Regiment, Lt Col S.K. Amengor, delivered a lecture on the topic: “A commanding officer’s expectations of a young officer.”

RCC Intake 35 motivated

Lt Col Konadu said members of the RCC Intake 35 thought it was prudent to come back and assist the institution that made “us who we are now.”

“We thought it wise as a group to give back to our institution because of the tremendous role it played in shaping us into becoming the officers we are now,” he said.

Lt Col Konadu said the group also wanted to use the occasion to share their experiences with the officer cadets and empower them with some of the practical aspects of their training.

He, therefore, said the RCC Intake 35 was willing and prepared to support the GMA in any possible way, adding that “giving back to our alma mater will always be a privilege.”

GMA grateful

The Commander of the GMA, Brigadier General Mike Akpatsu, who was the Course Commander at that time, commended the RCC Intake 35 for their initiative and challenged other groups to do the same.

He said one of the ways to address the challenges confronting many training and educational institutions was for the alumni to endeavour to assist their alma mater.

“By so doing, we take the burden off the shoulders of the government,” Brigadier General Akpatsu added.

He said despite the logistical constraints facing the GMA, efforts had been put in place to ensure that new officers received the best of training and empowerment.
