Ghana National Association of Cocoa Farmers laud price increase

The President of the Ghana National Association of Cocoa Farmers (GNACOF), Stevenson Anane Boateng, has welcomed the government’s latest increase in the producer price of cocoa, describing it as a long-awaited response to their concerns and a clear sign that the administration was listening to them.

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on Thursday, October 2, announced a new farmgate price of GH¢3,625 per 64kg bag of cocoa, representing a GH¢400 increase and a 12.27% rise over the price announced in August. The adjustment, approved by the Producer Price Review Committee, took effect from Friday, October 3.

The move means farmers, who had been receiving GH¢3,225 per bag since the start of the 2025/2026 crop season, will now earn more for their produce.

Speaking on the TV3 television Key Points programme on Saturday, October 11, the President of the Ghana National Association of Cocoa Farmers (GNACOF), Stevenson Anane Boateng, said the association was satisfied with the government’s decision and has formally conveyed its appreciation.

“We are much appreciative of this new price. We have written to thank the government because it shows they have listened to our concerns,” Mr. Boateng said He noted that while farmers had earlier expressed disappointment with the August price announcement, the latest adjustment restores confidence and strengthens relations between cocoa producers and the state.

“This time, we can see the government is listening. Our hope is that this continues so that cocoa farming remains rewarding for those who dedicate their lives to it,” he added.
