12 To advise President on economy

President John Dramani Mahama has constituted a 12-member high-level Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE) to provide strategic counsel on the nation’s economic recovery and growth agenda.

Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a statement, said the PAGE aimed to support the government’s drive to restore macroeconomic stability, strengthen fiscal sustainability, and accelerate inclusive, job-rich growth.

The initiative is also intended to bolster the implementation of key policy programmes such as the 24-Hour Economy, the Accelerated Export Development Programme, and the broader Reset Agenda.

Membership

The group, which will be chaired by the President, includes the Vice-President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

Other members are Ishmael Yamson, a private sector leader with vast experience in the corporate space; Kwame Pianim, a respected economist also with vast experience in the private corporate space; and Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa, a former Deputy Minister of Finance, who once held the portfolio of Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.

Others are Dr Kwabena Duffuor, a former Governor of the Bank of Ghana and former Minister of Finance; Sir Sam Jonah, a renowned business executive and industrialist in the private sector; and Ato Brown, a former World Bank Infrastructure Specialist.

The rest are Dr Henry A. Kofi Wampah, a former Governor of the Bank of Ghana; Togbe Afede XIV, economist and private sector leader; Abena Amoah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Stock Exchange; Prof. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour, a university professor and academic researcher; and Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor, a university professor and academic researcher.

Mandate

According to the statement, the PAGE will serve as an independent and non-partisan advisory body, reporting directly to the President.

The group’s mandate includes providing strategic advice on macroeconomic management, fiscal consolidation, debt sustainability, and ensuring coherence between fiscal and monetary policies.

It is also tasked with advising on structural transformation, industrial development, and export-led growth strategies, as well as supporting private-sector expansion, investment mobilisation, and sustainable job creation.

Furthermore, the group will conduct periodic assessments of the country’s economic performance and contribute expert input to Ghana’s negotiations with international financial institutions and development partners.

The statement said the establishment of PAGE “reflects the President’s resolve to draw on deep national and international expertise to support sound economic governance, strategic policy coordination, and evidence-based decision-making to navigate current economic challenges, and position Ghana for sustained growth and resilience”.
