Two pharmaceutical companies, Pharmanova Limited and Danpong Healthcare, have donated medicines valued at GH¢20,000 to the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL) to support its annual free health screening exercise.
The two companies each donated pharmaceutical products worth GH¢10,000 as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and commitment to supporting community health care and preventive health services.
The donations are to support the GCGL’s annual health screening exercise on September 19 and are expected to provide essential medicines for residents who will participate in the exercise.
The donations also complement the medical services being offered as part of the initiative.
The annual exercise is aimed at providing residents with access to basic healthcare services while encouraging regular health checks, early detection of health conditions and healthier lifestyles.
The support from the pharmaceutical companies also highlights the importance of collaboration between corporate organisations and community-focused institutions in promoting the well-being of people within the communities they serve.
Free screening
The Graphic Annual Free Health Screening has over the years provided residents of Adabraka and surrounding communities with access to medical care at no cost.
Medical doctors and other healthcare professionals are expected to provide consultations and treatment for common illnesses, while partner organisations will provide specialised services in dentistry, eye care and laboratory testing.
The initiative is aimed at encouraging routine health checks and supporting the early detection of conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol, which can be managed more effectively when diagnosed early.
It also forms part of the GCGL’s community-focused activities aimed at promoting preventive health care and social support among members of the public and seeks to reduce the financial burden associated with accessing health care, particularly for vulnerable residents who may have limited access to regular health services.
Supporting community health care
Speaking at the donation, the Chief Operating Officer of Pharmanova Limited, David Kafui Klutse, said the company was pleased to partner the GCGL to support the initiative, describing it as a worthy cause that would benefit residents in the Adabraka community.
He said as a local pharmaceutical company, Pharmanova considered it important to contribute to initiatives that improved the health and well-being of members of the public.
Mr Klutse said the company had donated pharmaceutical tablets and other medicines towards the exercise.
He said the donation formed part of the company’s commitment to responsible corporate citizenship and supporting the communities within which it operated.
“We as a local pharmaceutical company think it is a good thing to support,” he said.
Mr Klutse said businesses had a responsibility that went beyond making profits to contributing to the well-being of people living in the communities where they operated.
He said companies operated within an ecosystem of people and communities and, therefore, had a duty to support initiatives that addressed their social and healthcare needs.
“We as a responsible employer should not just focus on profits but also on the well-being of the people who live in the communities that we work or serve,” he said.
The Business Development Support Officer of Danpong Healthcare, Jane Gyapong, said the business was keen on supporting initiatives that promoted preventive health care and improved the health and well-being of communities.
Ms Gyapong said the company considered the donation an important contribution to the success of the screening, particularly because it would help provide medicines to people who needed them.
“We believe strongly in preventive health care and in supporting initiatives that improve the health and well-being of our communities,” she said.
She expressed the hope that the medicines would serve their intended purpose and contribute to the success of the exercise.
Ms Gyapong said supporting the screening also provided Danpong Healthcare with an opportunity to contribute to a community-focused initiative while strengthening the company’s relationship with the public.
She said the company was pleased to have been allowed to support the GCGL’s free health screening initiative.
GCGL receives donations
An Assistant Corporate Communications Officer of GCGL, Yvonne Dasoberi, received the health products on behalf of the company at separate venues.
She noted that the GCGL considered collaboration and support from partners essential for enhancing the initiative's impact, given the large turnout for screenings.
“Over the years, the patronage has been quite high and thanks to the support from our partners, the exercise has not only been impactful, but it has also served its intended purpose and many beneficiaries who are screened and found to have some conditions are encouraged to have the needed follow-up health care,” she stated.
