Five persons died, while 12 others sustained various injuries when a DAF Truck with registration number AW 9548-13, collided with a Toyota Hiace - GC 9728-21, at Waakrom Junction, near Yamoransa on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway on Monday.
The DAF truck, loaded with 700 bags of rice, collided with the Toyota Hiace and fell off the road with part landing on the Toyota vehicle, trapping its passengers in the process.

According to the Central Regional Public Relations of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), ADOIII Abdul Wasui Hudu, his outfit received a distress call about the accident at about 2:45 p.m on Monday.
He said when they arrived at the accident scene, one of the vehicles in the accident was mangled with some of the victims trapped in it.
The officer said they managed to remove five persons from the mangled vehicle.
However, four out of the five victims were pronounced dead at the hospital, while one was said to be in critical condition.
Injured persons
The fire officer said before their arrival, some good samaritans in the surrounding communities had managed to rescue 12 persons from the scene to the hospital.
One of them was later pronounced dead.
The rest were receiving treatment at the Biriwa health centre.
He said the driver and another passenger on the DAF truck, however, escaped unhurt.
The accident caused heavy traffic on the busy highway.
The fire officer advised motorists plying that stretch of the road to be extra cautious.
