7-Member committee on agric transformation inaugurated in Yendi

A Seven-member research for development and innovation agriculture and learning (ReDIAL) post-management project committee has been inaugurated in Yendi in the Northern Region.

The committee is chaired by Alhaji Yelzoli Tamalinaa Mahama Shamrock, with Abukari Mohammed and Osman Fusheina, as secretary and treasurer, respectively.

The other members are Mahama Dakara, Abdulai Rahinatu and Imoro Aminu.

The management committee is expected to work with the Yendi Municipal Assembly to ensure sustainability of the project in the municipality.

Project

REDIAL is a four-year project funded by the EU, and implemented in the country under the EU initiative on climate-relevant development smart innovation through research in agriculture in developing countries— DESIA.

The project seeks to contribute to transformation and innovation in agriculture and food system in the country through research.

The specific aim of the project is to foster innovation to improve soil fertility in the country through science and data, while applying innovative technology to improve threshing of grains and cereals.

The Programmes Manager of Friends of the Nation, an NGO, Robert Kwaku Amo, said ReDIAL was being implemented by a consortium of three partners, made up of two NGOs – FON and Tropenbos Ghana (TBG), and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The initiative is supported by two private companies – SAYeTECH, producers of multi-crop thresher technology and SESI Technologies of FarmSense Soil Testing Technology. 

Beneficiaries

The five beneficiary areas are Yendi, Ejura-Sekyedumase, Setwi-Wiawso and Techiman municipalities and the Kwahu Afram Plains North District.

Mr Amo said some youth had been trained in the operation and maintenance of a multi-crop thresher, including building the capacity of farmers to undertake sustainable management and climate-smart agriculture practices and soil testing, as well as holding of a national multi-stakeholder dialogue.
 

Appreciation

The Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Hammed Abubakari Yussif, who inaugurated the committee, commended ReDIAL and EU for the project in the municipality.

He said the assembly would ensure that the project covered the entire municipality to ensure that more people benefitted.

The Yendi Municipal Director of Agriculture, Alhaji Abubakari Mohammed, urged the committee members to work with the technical staff of his outfit for better outcomes.

For his part, the chairman of the committee, Alhaji Yelzoli Tamalinaa, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in them, and gave assurance of members’ commitment to achieve the desired results.
