Be guided by church's code of conduct — Rev. Dr Opuni-Frimpong

A Senior Lecturer at the Department of Religious Studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Rev. Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, has advised students in Presbyterian educational institutions to be guided by the church's strict code of conduct when they enter the job market.

He said it was only in that direction that malpractices such as corruption would be reduced or totally eliminated from society. He also indicated that the values of the Presbyterian discipline remained a genuine reference in turning around the fortunes of the country.

Rev. Dr Opuni-Frimpong, who is also a former General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, advised when he delivered a lecture to mark the 96th-anniversary celebration of Founder's Day and academic excellence, as well as staff awards of the Presbyterian Women's College of Education at Aburi in the Akuapem South Municipality in the Eastern Region.

The event was on the theme: "96 Years of Providing Quality Female Teacher Education: Preserving the Presbyterian Values.”

Ambassadors

He stated that due to the strict Presbyterian discipline, society had been calling on the church to rise to the challenges of indiscipline, particularly the conduct and behaviour of individuals, and how best to address such characteristics in some Ghanaians.

Rev. Dr Opuni-Frimpong told the students that once they had imbibed the Presbyterian discipline in them, they should consider themselves meaningful ambassadors everywhere they might find themselves after leaving the college.

He also told the students that when they entered the job market, they should not only be concerned with their salaries but should take up the mantle of preparing the next generation with good ideas for the development of the country.

For his part, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye was of the view that the quality of training that would be given to students determined the kind of people that would mould society and Ghana to be better places to live.

He added that it was both the individual and collective responsibility of Ghanaians to work towards changes that would transform the country to be a haven.

Welfare

The Principal of the College, Cynthia Anim, appealed to the government to take a critical look at the welfare of lecturers in colleges of education. She also called on the government to rehabilitate the college's non-operational bus that served as the only means of transportation.

Awards were presented to deserving students, with Essandor Vera Akorkor emerging as the overall best student with a GPA score of 4.0.
