Be honest in your places of work — Right Rev. Dr Ollennu

Ghanaians have been advised to be honest in their various work endeavours to ensure the country’s tremendous progress.

The Bishop of the Accra Diocese of The Methodist Church Ghana, Right Rev. Dr Samuel Nii Nmai Ollennu, who gave the advice said, though some were honest, a lot of people in the country were not honest, with some engaging in profiteering in their public places of work while others stole office hours and items as well as engaged in ficticious transactions.

“If everyone were practicing honesty in their endeavours and business transactions, the progress that this country would have achieved would be phenomenal. But because we have not stuck to honesty in our daily lives, that is why we are here,” he said.

Right Rev. Dr Ollennu said this in Accra last Sunday at the 40th anniversary celebration of Dunwell Methodist Church, New Fadama.

Making reference to what pertains in other countries, he said those countries were honest and lived by the law, while for Ghana, people were always finding ways and means to surmount and circumvent the law.

“I think this is not good. It is harming our nation. Now it is about time that we call our attention to the truth to exhibit honesty and truthfulness,” he emphasised.

He said if one was 40 years and was not working honestly, then it meant there was something wrong with that person, adding that dishonesty was one of the things that must be removed from their lives.

The Chairman of the anniversary planning committee, Eric Yeboah, said the church, which was then known as New Fadama Society, had its inaugural service on August 18, 1985 in a classroom of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly cluster of schools at New Fadama.

He said after 10 years of worshipping in the classroom due to difficulty in acquiring a land in the community, in March 2002, they were able to secure the land on which the church was currently situated.

He mentioned the achievements of the church, including the fact that some of its members had become Ministers in the Methodist connexion and had also served as executive members of organisations at the Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana.

The Minister in charge of the church, Rev. Jonathan Nii Armah Gordon, mentioned the activities that were organised as part of the anniversary celebration to include traditional Sunday, blood donation exercise, candle night, hymns and their meaning, cooking competition and Bible Quiz.

Awards for these competitions were presented to the winners during the programme.
