Brakwa-Breman Community Bank wins international award
The Brakwa-Breman Community Bank in the Central Region was recognised as the most efficiently managed microfinance institution in Ghana in 2025.
The Financial Inclusion Advocacy Centre, an independent microfinance think tank dedicated to strengthening institutions and expanding financial outreach, presented the prestigious award to the bank in Malaysia in December 2025.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank, Felix Owiredu Aidoo, proudly announced the achievement at the bank’s 40th annual general meeting held at Breman Asikuma last Saturday.
He stated that the bank made a profit before tax of GH₵2,374,218 in 2025, compared with the GH₵1,079,731 it declared in 2024, showing a difference of 119.87 per cent.
Mr Aidoo said during the same period, the bank granted loans totalling GH₵32,721,736 as against the GH₵20,885,167 it gave out to its customers in 2024.
He stated that the bank’s total assets grew from GH₵54,721,666 in 2024 to GH₵75,520,458 in 2025 while its deposits shot up from GH₵47,536,081 to GH₵65,449,373.
According to the Board Chairperson, the bank’s stated capital increased from GH₵1,197,221 in 2024 to GH₵1,769,741, with the total investments shooting from GH₵15,059,753 in 2024 to GH₵16,802,386 in 2025.
Mr Aidoo announced that the bank donated cash and building materials worth GH₵80,819.00 to a number of organisations in its catchment area as part of its corporate social responsibility.
He advised the bank’s shareholders to increase their shareholdings to meet the Bank of Ghana’s demand of GH₵5 million in stated capital by December 31, 2026, for the bank to continue to operate.
Mr Kofi Owusu of the ARB Apex Bank, who deputised for the Acting Managing Director, commended the bank for its outstanding performance and urged it not to relent in its efforts.
He, however, admonished the management to pay the GH₵5 million stated capital being demanded by the Bank of Ghana in order to continue to stay in business.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the bank, Felix Dompreh, enjoined the loan beneficiaries to repay them on schedule for other needy people to benefit from the facility.
The Breman Asikumahene, Odeefuo Amoakwa Boadu VIII, who is also the President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, commended the bank for winning an international award and urged it not to relax but work hard to win more laurels.
He admonished the bank to grant more loans to businessmen to expand their businesses and employ more unemployed youth in the area as their contribution to reducing the unemployment problem in the area.
The Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the bank, Prof. Lucy Effah Attom, urged all to believe in the bank and work to sustain the gains.
