Business resumes at ministries, agencies
Ministries and governance institutions in Accra have recorded a large number of workers at post attending to their official duties, a marked departure from the norm when workers trickled in after the festive break.
Though the holidays ended on January 1, with work expected to resume on Friday, January 2, most employers added that day as a holiday as well, shifting the official first day of work in the new year to Monday, January 5.
Greater Accra
A visit by the Daily Graphic to some ministries in Accra last Monday, January 5, showed staff actively at work, with car parks fully occupied, an indication of a full return to work after the holidays.
At the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), the majority of workers, including heads of department, were at post and discharging their duties.
Staff members expressed their commitment to their work and to the mandate of the council.
The Chief Director of the Greater Accra RCC, Lilian Baeka, confirmed that all staff were present and punctual, stressing that lateness and absenteeism were not tolerated. “We had our management meeting this morning, and almost everybody was present,” she said.
Mrs Baeka added that she was also personally monitoring staff of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the region to ensure that they were also at post.
“Personally, I will be monitoring the staff of the assemblies to make sure they are at post. All staff in the 29 assemblies are expected to be at work,” she stated.
She expressed appreciation to the workers for their dedication and urged them to continue to put in their best efforts.
Plans
Outlining the council’s plans for the year, Mrs Baeka said the RCC would continue to focus on monitoring, coordinating and evaluating the activities of the assemblies, while ensuring that revenue collected was used judiciously.
She said the council would also support the work of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mrs Linda Ocloo.
She stated that sanitation remained a major concern, and that the RCC would intensify monitoring to ensure cleanliness across the region throughout the year.
Office of the Head of Civil Service
At the Office of the Head of Civil Service, it was observed that work had resumed smoothly after the Christmas and New Year break.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service, Edward Owusu, told the Daily Graphic that civil service staff resumed fully on Monday, January 5.
He expressed optimism that staff of the civil service had returned very refreshed after the long break.
Mr Owusu expressed optimism about the new year, hoping for favourable conditions for the civil service and government’s success in tackling challenges.
The Daily Graphic also observed that staff had indeed returned to work in their numbers, with staff vehicles in their multitude parked outside the offices with security personnel manning entrances.
