The novels, religion and history books are to improve the reading skills of pupils and students to enable them to achieve their future dreams.

Seven thousand five hundred and nine of the books were given to the Akim Oda Christina Akua Brago Diawuo Library and Technology Hub in the Birim Central Municipality, while 4,000 of the books were presented to the Janet Brako Community Library and ICT Centre at Bieni in the Achiase District.

The gesture is to promote education and ICT skills development in the two towns and their surrounding communities.

Knowledge

Making the presentations last Friday, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful said the books would enable the students and pupils to acquire knowledge through reading to become more efficient in social development, for the advancement of the communities in the area and the country as a whole.

She said students and pupils in the two areas would be empowered to contribute their quota to the development of the communities.

The minister, who indicated that the gesture was to support the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, to provide educational materials to pupils and students in the areas, pleaded with parents to ensure that their children utilised the books.

That, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful stated, would enable their children to be better educated to become useful citizens.

Youth Day

The minister, who pointed out that the world had just commemorated the International Youth Day with the theme: “From Clicks to Progress; Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development”, said ICT could not be downplayed and must be made available to the youth.

She commended the Ghana Library Authority (GLA) and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) for their support in providing such reading books to the two libraries and ICT centres.

The Eastern Regional Director of the GLA, Evans Koletey Tene, praised the minister and other agencies which contributed immensely to the facilities, adding that the region had now increased its libraries from six in 2018 to 28 in 2024.

The Akim Oda MP who is also the Deputy Minister of Health, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, advised pupils and students as well as individuals to devote more time to reading resourceful books to build their leadership skills for national development.

He said reading was a crucial aspect of the overall development of pupils and students and gave them the ability to discover innovations through the learning of ICT.
