Education stakeholders sensitised to grant proposal writing
Stakeholders in the education sector have been urged to change their mindset and attitude towards their work to enable them to unlock the numerous opportunities available within the system to accelerate educational advancement.
The Director of the Global Quality Assurance Association, Dr Violent Makuku, made the call at a two-day seminar held at the Komenda College of Education in the Central Region.
The workshop, which was held on the theme, “The future of quality assurance for all types of institutions, companies, organisations, government ministries and departments:
Knowledge, skills, systems & solutions for transformation", brought together more than 40 education stakeholders from across the region and its enclave.
They were taken through grant proposal writing techniques and the need for personal and institutional growth.
Dr Makuku emphasised that although it was common for people to complain about the lack of resources and support for the educational sector, the real issue was with people’s attitude towards how they sought opportunities, particularly grants.
“Ghana is blessed with many resources in its educational system, but to make meaningful progress, we must first work on our mindset and attitude and the right opportunities,” she said.
According to Dr Makuku, grant proposal writing presented a viable solution for lecturers and educational institutions to generate additional income to support education development and research training.
Personal development
Dr Makuku stressed the importance of educating students and professionals alike on mindset transformation, highlighting that quality assurance is not only about systems but also about personal development.
She encouraged participants to focus on continuous self-improvement, urging them to compete with themselves every day and strive to become a better version of themselves.
Participants were trained on the procedures and strategies involved in successful grant proposal writing, including the type of language and persuasive rhetoric required to secure funding.
They were also exposed to other critical sectors such as energy, utilities, chemicals, health care and life sciences, and the financial services industry, including capital markets, banking and insurance.
“All of these areas require a strong focus on quality, and that’s what we aim to deliver," she explained.
The acting Registrar of Komenda College of Education, Constance Afriyie, expressed the College’s pride in hosting the two-day seminar, describing it as timely and essential.
A lecturer at Komenda College of Education, Gifty Emma Gyima-Aboagye, said she was perplexed by the depth of knowledge shared.
Another participant, Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim, also expressed appreciation, saying, “The session on grant writing was simply life-changing”.
