Experts sensitise students to energy sector
The seventh edition of the energy personalities outreach programme has been held at the Chemu Senior High School in Tema, to sensitise students to opportunities in the energy sector as well as promote discipline, leadership and innovation.
An initiative of the Energy Media Group, organisers of the Ghana Energy Awards, it was aimed at nurturing future energy professionals to bridge the gap between industry expertise and classroom learning.
It also encouraged the interests of students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers.
This year’s edition was on the theme: “Impacting the next generation today.”
The General Counsel at the Petroleum Commission and 2024 Female Energy Personality of the Year, Nana Akua Agyei, who was a resource person, urged students to build strong character foundations while exploring future opportunities in the energy industry.
Nana Akua Agyei also advised the students on the importance of morality and integrity as the foundation for long-term success, saying, “Character comes from the set of moral and ethical qualities that guide your decisions, shape your reputation, and define your legacy.”
She, therefore, cautioned students against the pressures of social media and fleeting popularity and urged them to prioritise principles over trends.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LMI Holdings, Kojo Aduhene, shared his work experience with the students and said, perseverance led to a breakthrough when a small construction project he had embarked upon evolved into a pathway to large-scale energy ventures.
Mr Aduhene, who was also the 2024 Energy Personality of the Year, said the energy sector offered opportunities far beyond engineering and added that “You do not always have to be an engineer to be in the energy sector.”
“Energy is the lifeblood of every economy. If we do not have electricity, hospitals do not operate, businesses stop, and people lose jobs,” he stressed
As part of the motivation, Mr Aduhene announced 10 internship slots for deserving students to gain hands-on experience in the energy industry.
