Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea and Djibouti to get Jack Ma's first shipment of Coronavirus supplies

Ghana has not been included in the first shipment of supplies, including protective gears and test kits, for distribution across the African continent donated by the billionaire, Jack Ma, to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Africa.

The committee set up to oversee the Africa distribution, has selected Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea and Djibouti as the countries to receive the first consignment which would be shipped out of Ethiopia Monday night [March 23, 2020].

China’s mass deployment of the medical aid to fight the Coronavirus disease reached Ethiopia on Sunday.

The supplies, donated by China’s Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. and Jack Ma’s foundation include 5.4 million face masks, more than one million testing kits, 40,000 items of protective clothing and 60,000 sets of face shields. 

More medical supplies are expected over the next few weeks.

In a tweet announcing the commencement of distribution, the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed Ali said: "Following receipt of #COVID19 prevention materials from @JackMa , I am pleased to share that with the able leadership at @flyethiopian and the committee set up to oversee the #Africa distribution, the first shipment will go out tonight to #Egypt, #Sudan, #Eritrea & #Djibouti."
