GhIE secures 10.72-acre land for Engineering Village at Assin Kushea

The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) has secured a 10.72-acre land at Assin Kushea in the Assin North District of the Central Region for the construction of an Engineering Village and Museum.

The land was formally handed over by the Paramount Chief of the Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Area, Ahunuabobrim Nana Pra Agyensaim VI, during a ceremony at Assin Kushea last Monday.

The project, when completed, would serve as a major hub for engineering innovation, skills development and tourism in the area.
Representatives from institutions including MTN Ghana, ECG, Telecel Ghana, the Volta River Authority, Ghana Highway Authority and Ghana Water Company Limited attended the ceremony.

STEM hub

The President of the GhIE, Ludwig Hesse, said the engineering village would include an industrial park, engineering museum, conference facility, eco-park and recreational centre, as well as hostel and residential accommodation.

He added that the facility would also house offices for the management team, a dormitory block, a restaurant, and residential facilities for staff.

He said the proposed engineering village, when completed, would collaborate with basic schools in the area to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education by providing practical training opportunities for pupils, particularly in robotics and other technical skills.

Mr Hesse said the serene environment and cleanliness of Assin Kushea influenced the decision to site the project in the community.

Socio-economic development

The Paramount Chief and President of the Owirenkyi Traditional Council, Ahunuabobrim Nana Pra Agyensaim VI, described the project as a major boost for tourism and socio-economic development in the area.

He stated that the community expected the engineering village to facilitate job creation, promote innovation, and provide skills-training opportunities for the youth.

Nana Pra Agyensaim VI said the project was a long-term legacy initiative aimed at supporting the development of Assin Owirenkyi and its surrounding communities.

He, therefore, called on residents and stakeholders to support the successful implementation of the project.
