GIA launches 2025 Insurance Awareness Month

The Ghana Insurance Association (GIA) has launched the 2025 Insurance Awareness Month with the aim of making insurance more accessible, inclusive and relevant to the everyday lives of Ghanaians.

Anchored on the theme: “Inclusivity and Accessibility: Purpose Beyond Profitability”, the campaign seeks to shift public perception of insurance from being a luxury to being a right for all, a tool for empowerment and financial security.

Movement

The First Vice-President of the GIA and Managing Director of Holland Life Insurance, Nashiru Iddrisu, who launched the initiative in Accra last Friday, emphasised that this year's campaign was more than just an event, saying “it’s a movement”.

“The challenges we face in this industry go beyond profit margins. Our goal is to ensure that every Ghanaian, whether in the formal or informal sector, sees insurance as a safety net, not an afterthought,” he stated.

He added that "the campaign, which runs from June to August, will blend education, street engagement, media campaigns and corporate social responsibility to bring insurance closer to the people".

The launch brought together insurance industry leaders, regulators, media professionals, corporate partners and community stakeholders.

Activities

Activities lined up include a street insurance campaign, set to be rolled out from July 8 to 11 in Kumasi, Takoradi, Cape Coast and Accra.

There will also be insurance exhibitions and product showcases at the Accra Mall from July 24 to July 26, and at a central location in Kumasi from August 7 to August 9.

These exhibitions, being held in partnership with the Graphic Communications Group Ltd, will present a full range of insurance offerings.

An insurance solutions forum, also scheduled for July 17, will convene CEOs, chief technical officers, and regulatory experts to explore sustainable insurance innovations that meet the evolving needs of Ghanaians.

Additionally, the association will host a thanksgiving service and a musical concert to celebrate the industry’s progress and foster unity among stakeholders.

At the launch, the Director, Marketing of Graphic Communications Group Ltd, Franklin Sowa, reiterated his outfit’s commitment to deepening public understanding of insurance.

He revealed that a special insurance industry supplement would be published in the Daily Graphic on July 24, and promotional activities would run across radio, digital platforms, and print.

“We’re not just helping you advertise; we’re helping Ghanaians to understand who you are, what you stand for, and the value you bring to their lives,” he said.

Social project

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA), Dr Kingsley Kwesi Kwabahson, highlighted GIA’s intention to give back to the local community through a targeted sanitation and social improvement project around its new premises in Accra.

“We’ve been part of this community for years, and it’s time to show it.

This campaign isn’t only about visibility; it’s about relevance.

We must take insurance beyond our offices and make it real in people’s lives,” he said.
