Establishment
The fund was established by President John Dramani Mahama in direct response to the devastating helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
The tragedy claimed the lives of eight distinguished citizens, including the Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah and the Minister of Environment, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
The fund's core mandate is to guarantee their children's long-term welfare, education and healthcare.
This latest update builds on an initial surge of generosity that saw the fund reach some GH¢ 2.3 million within days of its announcement, with a substantial donation from the Stanbic Bank Ghana.
Gratitude
Dr Sawyerr expressed gratitude for the continued support, stating that the collective effort demonstrates a national commitment to ensuring the children survive and thrive.
She said the government was committed to weekly publications of donor lists and a detailed framework for the fund’s management.
Dr Sawyerr appealed to the public to continue with support through the designated Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited accounts at the Stanbic Heights Branch in Accra.
Donations in cedis can be made to account number 9040013628372, while US Dollar donations can be sent to account number 9040013628534.
