Ho Police destroys 600 sacks of cannabis

The Volta Regional Police Command has destroyed 600 sacks of cannabis, with a total weight of 47,530 kilogrammes and an estimated street value of GH¢4.2 billion.

The narcotics, seized in 2022, as part of a case involving suspects Yao Kwadwo and two others, were burned last Monday at the Klefe dumping site in Ho.

A statement signed by the Head of Public Relations of the Volta Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Francis Kwaku Gomado, said the exercise was undertaken on the instruction of the Judge of the Ho Circuit Court, Felix Datsumor, after years of trial of the case.

Exercise

The exercise, which began at 10:30 p.m, was supervised by representatives from the judiciary, the Narcotics Control Commission, the Environmental Protection Authority, and state attorneys.

The statement emphasised that the burning was conducted under strict supervision from the Police, the National Security and the media.

"The exhibits were completely burnt under strict police, national security and the media presence at about 22:30hours at the Klefe dumping site in Ho," the statement said.

The Command also acknowledged the support of stakeholders in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
