Katamanso Chief, partners, give to 800 residents at annual food donation
The Chief of Katamanso, Tatse Nii Laryea Akuetteh X, in collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sentuo Group of Companies, Su Nyungkwon, has donated food items to 800 residents of Katamanso as part of their annual community support initiative.
Tatse Akuetteh X emphasised that the initiative aims to promote unity, inclusiveness and a sense of belonging among all residents, regardless of their ethnic background.
The items donated included rice and cooking oil, and it was a joint effort between the Katamanso traditional leadership and the Sentuo CEO, who is the Development Chief of the area, known traditionally as Nii Afotey Obulun Su.
Although the donation is typically held during Christmas, this year’s presentation was rescheduled due to Mr Nyungkwon's official engagement in China.
The gesture also coincided with celebrations of the Chinese annual festival last Sunday, reflecting the strong Ghana-China partnership fostered through the development chief.
Importantly, the 800 beneficiaries were not all indigenes of Katamanso but included residents from other regions who live and work in the community.
Longstanding relationship
Speaking during the donation ceremony last Saturday at the chief's palace in Katamanso, Tatse Akuetteh X explained that Mr Su, a prominent industrialist with investments in steel manufacturing, ceramics, oil refining and retail businesses across Accra, Tamale, Kumasi and other parts of the country, was installed as development chief in recognition of his longstanding relationship with the community and his commitment to local development.
He recounted how their relationship dated back to his tenure as regional minister, when he facilitated partnerships and business engagements between Ghana and China, including sister-city agreements and scholarship opportunities for assembly staff through the Regional Coordinating Council.
These collaborations, he said, had strengthened development ties and created educational opportunities for the residents.
“This is the second year we are undertaking this donation project.
It is a collaboration between me and the Development Chief of Katamanso, who has been part of our community for some time now.
We are also planning to bring development projects here, including steel factories and transportation services to benefit people living in the catchment area,” he said.
More projects
For his part, the Katamanso Development Chief, Nii Afotey Obulun Su, described Ghana as his hometown because his family lives here.
He expressed joy in supporting the people of Katamanso through annual donations, noting that the initiative forms part of activities marking the Chinese annual festival.
He added that, beyond the yearly donation, he and his partners also provide scholarships to support district assemblies and are committed to undertaking more development projects to benefit the people of Ghana, particularly the residents of Katamanso.
Appreciation
Some beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief of Katamanso and his partners for the donation.
Ramatu Mohammed, a resident of Agbeshie Laryea Palace, expressed her extreme excitement about the gesture and prayed for God’s blessings upon the chief and his partners, so they could continue supporting the community every year.
Naa Momo Gbormo Yitshonkwor, a beneficiary, shared her joy, saying she would prepare a meal for her family.
Foster Djogbedey Atsu, a resident of Peaceland in Katamanso, also confirmed receiving the items and thanked the donors for their generous support to residents.
