Let’s uphold peace during Homowo — Ablekuma North MCE

The Ablekuma North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Adamu Musa Kalamu, has urged residents to maintain peace and unity during the upcoming Homowo Festival in the municipality.

He said the festival was a time for reflection, the promotion of peace and unity.

Mr Kalamu made the call during the maiden Homowo Clean-Up exercise at Odorkor Tsuimaamli last Saturday to usher in the Homowo Festival, a significant celebration in the Ga tradition.

“ As residents we are expected to uphold the peace and join in the celebrations, which serve as a reminder of community resilence and unity,” he said.

Clean up

The assembly members, municipal coordinating director, and management staff participated in the clean up exercise organised by the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly.

Speaking during the exercise, Mr Kalamu, said the activity was to promote a cleaner environment and address sanitation issues in the municipality.

"We need to ensure that our environment is clean, especially as we approach the Homowo Festival," Mr Kalamu stated.

"However, we encountered some challenges during the exercise, particularly with shops having concrete slabs on their gutters, making it difficult to desilt them, " he added.

Despite the challenges, he said the assembly was committed to ensuring that the environment was clean and healthy for residents.

Previous exercise

Mr Kalamu said the Assembly has previously organised clean-up exercises in the area, including the Odorkor Market, to improve drainage and solid waste management in flood-prone settlements.

He said the assembly had also partnered organisations to promote good sanitation practices; therefore, he encouraged residents to take responsibility for their environment.

The Assembly member for Tsuimaamli, Sarah Forson, for her part, called on residents to cultivate the habit of cleaning their environment daily to improve sanitation in the area.
