Lordina Foundation provides health care to retirees

The Lordina Foundation has held its seventh free quarterly health screening for the Retired Ministers and Spouses Association (RMSA) of the Assemblies of God church in the Greater Accra East and West regions.

In all, more than 160 retirees were taken through a vital health consultation and free medication to ensure the continued well-being of the retirees of the Assemblies of God Church.

The initiative was instituted by the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, through the Lordina Foundation, following a pledge she made during a church event in September 2024 to provide free and regular health support for members of the Assemblies of God Retired Ministers and Spouses Association.

Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries received a wide range of screening, including laboratory tests covering essential indicators such as blood sugar levels, Hepatitis B, blood pressure, certain cancers, eye checks,  prostate health and general health consultations.

They also received medical diagnosis, counselling, prescriptions and medications and were given breakfast and lunch during the exercise.

In addition, the First Lady presented each beneficiary with a bag of rice and an undisclosed cash gift.

The goal of the quarterly exercise is to keep them healthy at all times and detect any illness early to provide them with the necessary support.

In a speech read on her behalf,  the First Lady quoted 1 Timothy 5:17, "The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honour, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching."

She said the verse taught that those who gave their lives to the service of God Almighty and His people must not be neglected, as they deserved to be honoured and cared for, and it was on that basis that the association was formed in 2024.

Association

The association exists to bring retired ministers and their spouses together, to give them fellowship and community, to look after their welfare and to ensure that those who spent their lives serving others are not left alone or forgotten in their retirement.

“At the launch of the association in September 2024, I pledged through the Lordina Foundation to provide free quarterly health screenings and medications for every member.

Today, I am glad we are keeping that promise. This is our seventh edition, and I give God thanks for that,” she said.

“At our sixth edition, held on March 13, 2026, over 150 retired ministers and spouses were screened.

They received medical diagnosis, counselling, prescriptions and medications.

That was a good day,” she recalled.

The First Lady expressed profound appreciation to the medical team, the leadership of the Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God for making the venue available to them each time.

She also commended  the board and staff of the Lordina Foundation for ensuring the exercise happened every quarter without fail.

The Chairman of the Retired Ministers and Spouses Association, Rev. Dr Harry Nsaidoo, said the launch of the association coincided with the launch of the Lordina Foundation’s free health screening and since then it had been a great blessing to the retired ministers.

He said most retirees were aged between 65 and 80, and the health screenings were having a tremendous improvement in their health and daily activities.

Some beneficiaries the Daily Graphic spoke to expressed gratitude to the First Lady and her husband, President John Dramani Mahama, for the support.

According to them, the exercise had helped to restore their health, physical well-being and the peace of mind to lead normal lives and “we are so grateful”.
