Majority Caucus, NDC, PPP mourn loss of 8 in helicopter crash
The Majority Caucus in Parliament has described the demise of eight persons, including two Cabinet Ministers, in last Wednesday's helicopter crash as a devastating blow to Parliament, the Government, the Armed Forces, and the people of Ghana.
In a statement signed by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, the caucus extended its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
"On behalf of the Parliamentary Caucus, I join the President, Members of the Government and all Ghanaians in expressing heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families," the statement said.
The Majority Caucus paid tribute to the sacrifice, patriotism and commitment to duty of the deceased, saying their dedication to serving the nation will forever be remembered.
"Our former colleagues in Parliament and in Government and the officers we have lost dedicated their lives to the service of our nation," the statement added.
Heroes
The two Cabinet Ministers who died in the tragic accident are Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister, Dr Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
The six are the acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Ahaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna; NDC National First Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, NDC former Parliamentary Candidate Samuel Aboagye, and three military personnel—Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
They died in line of serving the nation.

In a related development, the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), in a statement signed and issued by its General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, said the party was saddened by the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians, including prominent party members and Ghana Armed Forces personnel.
It described the incident as a "devastating moment for our party and for our nation," paying tribute to the victims as "exemplary patriots who served their country with honour, courage and unwavering dedication”.
The party extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces and the people of Ghana, wishing the departed souls to "rest in perfect peace" and hoping their legacy would continue to inspire.
The NDC pledged to honour their memory by upholding the values of patriotism, selflessness, integrity and commitment to nation-building.
PPP
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP), for its part, expressed its deepest sorrow following the tragic deaths of eight distinguished Ghanaians who lost their lives in service to the nation.
The party, in a statement signed and issued by the PPP’s National Chairman, Nana Ofori Owusu, conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the President of the Republic, the NDC and the Ghana Armed Forces.
“This is a moment of deep national pain, and we stand in solemn solidarity with all those affected,” the statement said.
“The party calls on all Ghanaians to unite in grief and reflection, and to honour the memory of the fallen by recommitting ourselves to national peace, security and unity.”
