Minority Leader inaugurates health centre
The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has inaugurated a modern health centre for the people of Ateitu and its surrounding communities in Winneba.
The disability-friendly facility, named Dr Apetorgbor Dzodzegbe Health Centre, has several consulting rooms and is equipped with modern healthcare equipment to enhance quality care delivery for the residents.
The equipment includes a haematology analyser, Olympus microscopes, wheelchairs, delivery beds, delivery sets, 50-litre oxygen cylinders, examination couches, beds with drapes and baby-weighing scales.
It was named after Dr Dzodzegbe, a gynaecologist who once lived and offered immense healthcare delivery to the people of Winneba, especially women and children.
Fulfilment of a promise
In an address at the inaugural ceremony, Mr Afenyo-Markin said he felt gratitude and pride because the people of Effutu entrusted him with the privilege to serve them as their MP, among many others who were equally qualified for that responsibility.
“Pride because together we have transformed a long-cherished vision into reality and as your Member of Parliament (MP), nothing gives me greater satisfaction than seeing a long-held dream become reality.
“The opening of this health centre is a fulfilment of a promise to bring quality health care closer to our people,” he said.
Explaining the decision to name the facility Dr Dzodzegbe Health Centre, Mr Afenyo-Markin said growing up as a child, he and other residents of Winneba heard of Dr Apetorgbor, who sacrificed all he had to “save us, especially our mothers.”
He recalled that when Dr Apetorgbor was transferred from Winneba to Akim Swedru, “we chased him there and we did not allow him any rest.”
“Dr Dzodzegbe, Effutu has this little contribution to honour you; in life we come and we serve and when we leave, our memory is honoured.
Unparalleled commitment
The Chief Executive for Effutu, Rev. Atta Mensah, described the Ateitu health centre as a powerful testament to what could be achieved when the people worked together.

He expressed happiness that Mr Afenyo-Markin had consistently contributed and demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to the development of the Effutu Municipality.
Appreciation
Expressing appreciation for the project named after him, Dr Dzodzegbe said: “Honourable Afenyo-Markin, you have done well by honouring me with this centre”.
“I walked through the place and it is just not a health centre; it is a modern clinical centre.”
“And we need such facility everywhere so that specialists can move from the other places to come and provide the care at the doorsteps of the people so that the people can receive good care,” he said.
