MTN gives GH¢30,000 to Chief Imam’s educational fund

MTN Ghana has presented a cheque for GH¢30,000 to the national Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, to support his educational fund.

The telecommunications company also donated bags of rice, cartons of cooking oil, boxes of mineral water, crates of assorted soft drinks, two rams and MTN airtime for the celebration of this year’s Eid ul Fitr to mark the end of Ramadan.

The items were presented to the Chief Imam after an hour-long Quranic recitation initiated by MTN in honour of his centenary birthday celebrations. Sheikh Sharubutu was born on April 23,1919.

General Manager of Distributive Trade of MTN Ghana, Abubakar Mohammed, said the company had always deemed it proper to support the Chief Imam during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations with donations and by organising events at Nima and Accra New Town in an effort to foster peaceful co-existence in the communities.

Mr Mohammed added that it was for similar reasons that the company had been supporting the National Hajj Board annually in the organisation of the pilgrimage to Makkah for the past years.

Centenary birthday

On the Chief Imam’s centenary birthday celebrations, Mr Mohammed said “a few people live to witness their century birthday in such great condition”.

“This celebration clearly highlights Allah’s favour and blessings on your life, and MTN is happy to be associated with you,” he added.

“At MTN, we see your persona as a symbol of the values we stand for. You mirror our values of integrity, relationship and leadership-which we hold very dear to our brand. Over the past years, MTN Ghana has enjoyed tremendous support and collaboration with the Office of the National Chief Imam,” he added.

The donation, according to Mr Mohammed, was the company’s support towards His Eminence’s century celebration and this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr.

In a short speech, the National Chief Imam thanked MTN Ghana for the continuous support and prayed for Allah’s abundant blessings for the company and its management.

He prayed for Allah’s guidance and elevation of MTN to the greatest height and to continue to prosper to deliver to its customers.

Later, some staff of MTN took turns to have a picture opportunity with the Chief Imam and other members of the council.
