New Immigration Service office complex at Aduamoa

A GH¢850,000 Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) office complex has been inaugurated at Aduamoa near Abetifi in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region.

The facility, which the chiefs and people of Aduamoa jointly put up with support from the GIS under the Ministry of Interior, is to help regulate and monitor the activities of foreigners, most of whom are entrepreneurs or individuals desiring to establish businesses on the Kwahu enclave.

The edifice, which is also to enhance the operations and welfare of the GIS, includes a reception, holding cells, a commander’s office, a workstation for junior officers, a conference room, 2IC’s office, a staff officers’ office, a kitchen, a rest room and a place of convenience.

Migration processes

At a ceremony to officially inaugurate the facility at Aduamoa last Saturday, the Deputy Minister for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, who represented the sector minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, said the new office would enable the GIS to better serve the people of Aduamoa and its environs to facilitate migration processes in the area.

He described the gesture as a demonstration of the community's commitment to development, as well as their willingness to collaborate with government agencies to improve the lives of their subjects for maximum security of the people.

Mr Terlabi expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of Aduamoa, particularly the Chief of Aduamoa, Nana Ahea Tutu Brempong, for collaborating with the GIS to construct the new office building.

He assured the people of Kwahu that the government would prioritise security and development across the country and work with traditional leaders, individuals and organisations to address security challenges facing communities.

Discipline

The Comptroller-General of the GIS, Samuel Basintale Amadu, who was encouraged by the support of the Aduamoa community, urged the officers to maintain a high standard of discipline, integrity, professionalism and live in harmony with the inhabitants in the discharge of their duties.

"You are the face of the GIS and your conduct can either enhance or undermine the reputation of our esteemed service.

"Live in harmony with community members, uphold the highest standard of discipline, integrity and professionalism," Mr Amadu told the GIS officers.

Mr Amadu urged all foreign nationals residing in Kwahu and its surrounding communities to be law-abiding and also respect Ghana's laws, traditions and culture.

Fight crime

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Abetifi Constituency, Bryan Achampong, who also supported financially the construction of the facility, indicated that the Kwahu area, especially Aduamoa, would have buildings for all the security services to deal with crime.

The Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, who was highly elated about the new GIS facility, stated that it formed part of measures to increase security visibility in the area.

Daasebre Boateng indicated that the traditional area had vast lands at Kwahu Afram Plains North and South, and appealed to the Comptroller-General to consider putting up a new GIS edifice there to fight crime.

The Benkumhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area, who is also the Chief of Aduamoa, Nana Ahea Tutu Brempong II, said the event was not merely the inauguration of the new facility but the celebration of a milestone of the community's shared commitment to development, security and progress.
