Newly installed Bechem Omanhene calls for unity, investment to drive devt

Bechem, the Tano South Municipal capital, was filled with excitement and pride last Saturday, as hundreds of people from all walks of life converged to witness the installation of the Paramount Chief of Bechem, Nana Asiwobour Osei Bonsu III, in a grand celebration of culture, tradition and community unity.

The atmosphere was festive as the ground was adorned with colourful canopies and traditional regalia, while the rhythmic sounds of talking drums, fontomfrom and traditional horns filled the air.

A colourful and culturally rich ceremony, which marked the installation of Nana Asiwobour, saw chiefs arrive in grand procession, seated in state under beautifully decorated umbrellas that symbolised their authority and heritage.

Dressed in rich kente cloth and adorned with gold ornaments, Nana Asiwobour Bonsu was ushered into the durbar grounds amid drumming, dancing and cheers from the crowd.

Performances

Traditional warriors and cultural groups displayed beautiful performances as they welcomed the newly installed Omanhene.

The ceremony brought together several high-profile personalities, including the Omanhene of Mim Traditional Area, Okoforobour Dr Yaw Agyei II, who chaired the event, and the Omanhene of Tepa Traditional Area, Nana Dr Adusei Atwenewa Ampem I, who attended as the Special Guest of Honour.

Government officials, including the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano South, Charles Asiedu, the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive, Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, as well as members of the clergy and heads of institutions, also graced the occasion.

Throughout the ceremony, cultural performances and the sounding of traditional drums added to the grandeur of the occasion, while the people of Bechem applauded as their new Omanhene took his seat in state.

Unity, investment

In his inaugural address, Nana Asiwobour called for unity, investment and collective commitment to accelerate development in the community.

He said that without unity, development would remain a dream and urged residents, including opinion leaders, political figures and the diaspora, to rally behind a shared vision for a stronger Bechem.

Nana Asiwobour appealed to investors, entrepreneurs, and diaspora members to visit the area to explore opportunities in agriculture, commerce, education and job creation.

He underscored the need to reinforce ties with communities such as Bechem, Dwomo, Terchire, and Tanoso, describing their unity as vital to the progress of Asanteman.

Development agenda

Outlining his development agenda, Nana Asiwobour said his leadership would prioritise education and youth empowerment, healthcare, social welfare, entrepreneurship, infrastructure and cultural revitalisation.

Other plans, he said, included rebranding the Adekyem Festival, establishing a modern secretariat for the Traditional Council, advocating a health college in Bechem, and the construction of a modern palace.

Nana Asiwobour urged the youth to channel their energy into building a prosperous future, calling on everyone to work together in unity and purpose to strengthen Bechem for generations to come.

Expressing gratitude to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Queenmother of Bechem, Nana Adwoapo Dwamena Serwaa II, elders, kingmakers, and the people for their support, he pledged loyalty to the Golden Stool and commitment to serve faithfully.

Laid-down customs

The Bechemhemaa, Nana Adwoapo Dwamena Serwaa II, commended the chiefs and people of Bechem, particularly members of the Traditional Council and the kingmakers, for their cooperation and support, which ensured a peaceful installation of the Omanhene.

Nana Adwoapo Dwamena Serwaa II urged chiefs in the region to work together to promote development in their respective traditional areas.

She called on the political leadership of the municipality to collaborate closely with traditional authorities to advance the development in Bechem and its surrounding communities.

The MP for Tano South, Charles Asiedu, appealed to the newly installed Omanhene to offer guidance and direction whenever the political leadership strayed from the path of development.
