The Somanya High Court Judge in the Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region, Justice A.W.K. Nawurah, has advised the members of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council not to take oath-taking as a mere formality but rather a profound commitment to their people, traditions and the very fabric of their community in the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area.
“You stand poised to become the custodians of our heritage and the architects of our future.
Reflect deeply on the gravity of this responsibility as you take the oaths of office and secrecy.
Let these oaths bind you to stand for a sacred trust.”
“Your office is a call to service, not an opportunity for personal gain.
Let honesty, transparency and unwavering moral uprightness be the bedrock of every decision you take.
Prioritise the well-being and development of your communities above all else.
Remember, you are here to serve the people of Yilo Krobo to uplift them and to ensure justice prevails,” Justice Nawurah stressed.
The Somanya High Court Judge gave the advice when he administered the oaths of secrecy and office to seven gazette members of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council at Somanya last Thursday.
Those who took the oaths included the Divisional Chief of Okper, Nene Anyeenorgu Teye Agor IX; the Divisional Chief of Bunase- Odave, Nene Tetteh Kofi Karikari III and the Divisional Chief of Ogome, Nene Madjan Kennetey II.
The others were Asafoatse Badu Opata Korley of Nkranka; Manye Maku Zuta of Bunase Division, Dademanye Kwao-Kuma Yohunor of Pleyo Okper and Dadematse Kwao Stephen Tetteh of Pleyo Okper Division.
Justice Nawurah told the members of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council that they are a living embodiment of their heritage, which means they must uphold the traditions and customs of the area, adding “These are the pillars that have sustained us for generations and it is your solemn duty to ensure they continue to guide us.”
Fairness
The High Court Judge advised the members of the Traditional Council to seek wisdom from their elders and from within their ranks in their deliberations and judgements.
He also urged them to exercise fairness and impartiality in all matters, treating everyone with dignity and respect, irrespective of their social standing or background and avoid any form of favouritism or prejudice that could tarnish the sanctity of their office.
He also urged the leadership of the traditional council to foster unity and cohesion within their communities, collaborate, listen attentively to diverse voices and strive to build bridges where divisions might exist, and improve the quality of life for all in Yilo Krobo.
The President of the Traditional Council, Nene Nuer Anorbah Sasraku IV, who administered the Oath of Acceptance to the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council, enjoined the new members to ensure they confined themselves to the rules and regulations that govern the traditional council.
The Divisional Chief of Okper, Nene Anyeenorgu Teye Agor IX, on behalf of the new members sworn in, thanked the President of the Traditional Council for their acceptance and the Somanya High Court Judge for the very important pieces of advice he gave them at the function.
He pledged on behalf of his colleagues to work in conformity with the traditional council’s laws in the interest of their respective areas and Yilo Krobo as a whole.
